Classically trained in oil painting, Lauren
Travis is inspired by Rembrandt, Caravaggio and
Vermeer and the French and Pennsylvania Impressionists. Her still life paintings are intimate and full
of symbolism. Travis' still life paintings
have been compared by critics to the French painters Chardin and Cezanne
and noted Philadelphia still life painter Rembrandt Peale.
Travis' landscape paintings are done both Plein Air and in her studio. They are loose and painterly, infused with dramatic light and color.
Lauren Travis is a frequent lecturer on the
arts. Lectures include "I Didn't Know That", Michener
Art Museum, Doylestown, PA in 2006, "Art Appreciation"
at Delaware Valley College in 2005 and "Art Appreciation"
at the Solebury Community School in 2005 & 2003. She is also a contributing author of various art-related articles for local magazines and newspapers.
Travis has served as a juror for regional
exhibits including the Tinicum Arts Festival, the Doylestown
Art League's annual juried exhibition and the Central Bucks
Chamber of Commerce's annual sculpture exhibition. In 2005,
she co-curated the "Treasures from the LaSalle University
